A McGraw man who is accused of driving drunk and causing a horrific crash that killed a McGraw woman appeared in Cortlandville Town Court Tuesday.

41 year Gary Strout Jr. of 26 West Center Stree, Stout appeared in front of Cortlandville Town Justice Fran Casullo dressed in an orange jail jump suit in a wheel chair, both of his legs were bandaged due to injuries he sustained in last Wednesday crash.

The accident happened around 12:30 in the afternoon on August 29th on Route 41 in front of the State Department of Transportation maintenance Facility.

State Police say 55-year-old Janet Cochran of 7 East Man Street, McGraw was traveling westbound in her Volkswagen Jetta when she was struck head-on by Strout who was operating a 2001 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck.

Cochran was transported to the Cortland Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Strout was also taken to the Cortland Regional Medical Center with injuries treated and released.

Strout was later charged with a felony count of Vehicular manslaughter. Strout also faces a misdemeanor charge of Driving While Intoxicated along with vehicle and traffic charges of failure to keep right and two counts of unsafe tires.
