“Suffering the Consequences: Stop DWI New York,” is a documentary that was created by Stop DWI New York to prevent drunk driving and the tragedies that are caused by it. The New York program works hand-in-hand with local law enforcement, public information, education, and other’s in several areas throughout New York. Their aim is to promote DWI prevention, and reduce the number of persons “killed or injured in alcohol and other drug related traffic crashes.”

Most recently Stop DWI has been working in Watertown, New York with their local TV station, “WPBS-TV” as well as the “Watertown Urban Mission” to air a documentary about drunk driving. The documentary will be filled with families who have been victims of drunk driving tragedies. Those who share their personal stories choose to do so hoping that it will “save other families from experiencing the pain and heartache caused by losing a loved one to a DWI.”

Additionally, the documentary includes clips from the Watertown Urban Missions Stop DWI Victims Impact Panel they held in April. The panel features stories of families and law enforcement officers who have dealt with DWI related consequences first hand. Some of the victims who shared their stories suffered the greatest loss of them all, a family member or loved one.

The major goals behind broadcasting this documentary is to provide awareness to the public of the consequences of drunk driving, to prevent future tragedies, and to allow the victims stories to be heard by a larger audience. The documentary will be available online at www.wpbstv.org, and broadcasted on WPBS June 11th at 8:00 P.M., June 17th at 10:00 P.M., June 23rd at 1:00 P.M. Additionally, Watertown Urban Mission will have a reception at 6:00 P.M on June 11th followed by a screening of the documentary at 7:00 P.M. and a panel shortly after.
